No one resource can promise to tell you all you need to know. But click on the links below and we'll try.
The following points are probably very important:
- Children are protected under English law and it is your responsibility to ensure that your children are safe and well cared for
- Never leave young children alone
- If you need to leave your children, perhaps while you are at work, make sure that the childcare is provided by a suitable person
- There is a Registered Childminder system, and these people are recommended
- Every child aged 3 or 4 can have free childcare from the start of the term after their 3rd birthday
- You can find out all about childcare from the Family Information Service
- It is generally illegal in this country for anyone to work before they are 13 years old
- There are strict limits on the hours young people can work, and the type of work they can do
- Anyone employing young people has to get a permit from the local authority which must be signed by the employer and the child's parent or guardian
- Anyone who neglects, exploits and abuses children in the UK can be imprisoned
