CITIZENS ADVICE:
No one resource can promise to tell you all you need to know. But click on the links below and we'll try.
These are perhaps the useful things to remember:
- We have provided a list of just about every agency which can help you.
- Every agency has a label to explain what they do in a few words.
- Most have telephone numbers and websites.
- Some of these agencies are governmental, and some are NGOs (Non Governmental Agencies).
- In general all of these agencies operate throughout the UK - not just in a small area.
- If you only remember one organisation name, then go to CAB (Citizens Advice Bureaux), because they should then point you in the right direction. CAB offices are in most towns and cities.
- Other agencies like the Resource Information Service at www.ris.org.uk will give you many more links, so they are gateways to people who will help you.
- Most of these agencies will not charge you.
- Always ask if any charge is involved. This should be explained very clearly to you. And, if there is a charge, you should sign a paper before you are given the service!
- As a general rule these agencies will not report you to the police or security services. That isn't their job, and the UK is not a police state. They'll just advise you.
